Privacy policy

matcha.nz collects as little as it can. We measure visits with two analytics tools, your Ritual log stays in your own browser, and the only personal details we receive are the name, email and business details you choose to send through our listing forms, which we use only to reply to you.

When you browse

We use two analytics tools to count visits and see which pages are useful: Usermaven, loaded from our own subdomain um.matcha.nz, and Ahrefs Web Analytics. They record things like the pages you view, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. We use this in aggregate to improve the site, never to identify you.

The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, to run and protect the service.

Cafe maps load map tiles from OpenFreeMap, so your browser requests those images from their servers. Our fonts and photos are served from matcha.nz itself.

The Ritual log

The cups you log on the Ritual page are saved in your own browser (local storage) and never sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them.

When you send us a form

The claim a listing, add a cafe and add a brand forms ask for your name, your email address and details about the business. We use them only to review your request and reply to you. They are delivered to us by email through Brevo, our email provider, which also sends you a confirmation.

We keep these emails only as long as we need them to handle your listing, and we delete them on request. We do not sell your details, add you to a mailing list or use them for marketing.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email hello@matcha.nz. If you are not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
